Buffet Ham With Fruit

This is such an easy way to serve ham for a party, a simple Thanksgiving or any get together with friends and family. This isn’t really amount sensitive so it will happily expand to more or fewer servings as you need. You can also use the recipe for a more formal whole ham presentation (see TIP below). You’ll need a big crock pot or two if you don’t have a large one.
MAKES: 16 servings
INGREDIENTS:
- 6 lbs boneless “Buffet” (round) cooked ham
- 4 large Fuji (or tart) apples, peeled and chopped
- 2 cups apple juice
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
DIRECTIONS:
- Peel, core, and chop the apples.
- Combine the apples, apple juice, raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well, set aside.
- Using a “Buffet Style” ham, cut it into 32 slices and put it in the crock pot, layering the ham with the fruit mix and leave it on low for about 4-6 hrs.
- Let everyone serve themselves for the buffet.
TIP:
For a formal whole ham, in addition to the above, you will need:
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 large oven cooking bag
- 6 lb boneless fully cooked ham (in place of the “buffet” ham listed above)
DIRECTIONS:
- Shake flour in the oven roasting bag.
- Place in an ungreased 13-inch by 9-inch baking pan.
- Place the apples, apple juice, raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon in the bag; mix well
- Place ham in bag.
- Close bag.
- Cut six 1/2-inch slits in top of bag.
- Bake at 325 degrees for 1 3/4 to 2 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 140 degrees.
- Let ham stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve with fruit sauce.
